Flood Money Auction - A Hip Hop Relief for QLD Flood Victims
The hip hop scene in Australia has always been one with a strong sense of community and it is that solidarity which the Flood Money Auction drew upon. I personally reached out to the best DJ’s, producers, MC’s, promoters, photographers and heads with deep record crates and asked them to donate some unique, rare and amazing items from their own personal collections to help the QLD Premier’s Disasters Relief Appeal. The highlight for me was getting Suffa of the Hilltop Hoods own personal DJ mixer signed by all of the Hoods and Pressure to donate his test pressing of the last Hoods LP also.
I was also responsible for organising the in-kind logo design, website hosting and knocking a quick Tumblr site up as a central point to find out what was happening with the auction.
The auctions were staggered over a number of weeks to give heads the best opportunity to pick something up and everybody was kept informed of new items through the Peak Street Facebook and Twitter as well as key drops on important forums like OzHipHop.com and InTheMix.com. I also did interviews on PBS Radio and two on Triple J (one with The Doctor and one with Hau on the Hip Hop Show).
The auction raised over $7,000.
